How Byhash works

documentation

Everything the Miner does, in plain language. Stake $BYHASH to mine, earn block rewards that halve every 14 days, and get paid in ZEC from trading fees.

Overview

$BYHASH is a token on Robinhood Chain that borrows its economics from Zcash. There are no machines. You stake $BYHASH, your stake counts as hashrate, and the Miner contract pays miners every second in proportion to the hashrate they hold.

Miners earn two things:

  • $BYHASH block rewards. They come out of a reserve held by the Miner, and the reward halves every 14 days.
  • ZEC. Creator fees from $BYHASH trading are used to buy Zcash. Each purchase is credited to miners over 3 days, then sent to their Zcash addresses.

The token launches on Pons with a fixed supply and no mint function. All mining logic lives in a separate contract, the Miner.

Quick start

  1. Get $BYHASH. Buy it on Pons with ETH on Robinhood Chain.
  2. Open the app and connect a wallet. Any wallet that supports Robinhood Chain works; the app adds the network to the wallet if it is missing.
  3. Pick an amount and a lock period. Longer locks give more hashrate for the same tokens. Approve once, then stake.
  4. Watch rewards build up. They accrue every second. The counter in the app is the same number the Miner will pay.
  5. Save your Zcash address. This is where your ZEC is sent. You can add it or change it at any time in the app.
  6. Claim $BYHASH whenever you like. ZEC does not need a claim. It arrives in your Zcash wallet with the next payout.

Mining and hashrate

Each stake opens a rig. A rig has an amount, a lock period and a hashrate. Your hashrate is the amount you staked multiplied by the boost of the lock you chose.

lock periodboosthashrate from 10,000 $BYHASH
no lock1×10,000 H
3 days1.2×12,000 H
14 days1.5×15,000 H
60 days2×20,000 H

The total hashrate of all miners is the difficulty. Rewards are split by share, so when more hashrate joins, every existing share gets thinner. When miners leave, the remaining shares grow.

A locked rig cannot be unstaked until its lock ends. After that it keeps mining at the same hashrate until you close it. Unstaking returns exactly the tokens you put in.

Rewards are not locked. You can claim at any time, even while your rig is still locked.

Worked example

Say the difficulty is 1,000,000 H and you open a rig of 10,000 $BYHASH with the 14 days lock: 15,000 H, which is 1.478% of the new difficulty. You earn that share of every second’s block reward for as long as the rig is open, and the share moves the moment anyone else stakes or unstakes.

Block rewards

The Miner holds a reserve of $BYHASH. Time is divided into epochs of 14 days. At the start of each epoch the Miner takes half of the reserve that is left and spreads it evenly across that epoch.

epochshare of the reserve minedmined in total
050%50%
125%75%
212.5%87.5%
36.25%93.75%
43.125%96.875%
51.5625%98.4375%

Because each epoch can only pay out half of what remains, the Miner can never emit more than it holds. The curve is the same one Zcash follows, run about 104 times faster: Zcash halves every 1,680,000 blocks, about four years; $BYHASH halves every 14 days.

Rewards are calculated per second. The block counter, the 75 second block time and the block reward you see in the app are a display on top of that (16,128 blocks per epoch), so they line up with how Zcash reports its numbers.

No miners, no emission. If nobody is staking, the reserve is not spent.

Top ups are allowed. Anyone can send $BYHASH to the Miner. It joins the reserve and raises the block reward from the next halving onward. The current epoch is not changed.

ZEC rewards

Every $BYHASH trade on Pons pays a creator fee. The team claims those fees and uses them to buy Zcash. This is native ZEC on the Zcash network, not a wrapped token.

Robinhood Chain cannot hold native ZEC, so the Miner does not hold it either. It keeps the ledger. The flow has three steps, and every step is done by hand. There is no bot, so there is no fixed schedule, and the amounts depend on trading volume.

  1. Announce. After buying ZEC, the owner records the amount in the Miner. It is credited to miners evenly over 3 days, split by hashrate. Staking a minute before an announcement does not help, because nothing is credited up front.
  2. Send. The owner sends the ZEC owed to each miner on the Zcash network, to the address that miner saved. One Zcash transaction can pay many miners.
  3. Record. The payment is written to the Miner with its Zcash transaction id. Your balance drops by exactly that amount, and the app shows it as sent.

Your Zcash address

Save it once in the app. Transparent (t1), shielded (zs1) and unified (u1) addresses all work, and you can change it whenever you want. It is stored on Robinhood Chain, so it is public. If you have not saved an address, your ZEC keeps adding up and waits for you.

Checking a payout

Every payout emits a ZecPaid event with your wallet, the amount and the Zcash transaction id. If you use a transparent address, anyone can look that transaction up on a Zcash explorer. If you use a shielded address, only you can see it, in your own wallet.

This part runs on trust. The Miner proves how much ZEC each miner is owed and what has been recorded as paid. It cannot force the ZEC to be sent, because that happens on another network.

Zcash and Byhash

Equihash is the proof of work algorithm that secures Zcash. Byhash takes the monetary schedule and the vocabulary of mining. It does not take the privacy.

Owner permissions

The Miner contract has an owner. This is the complete list of what that address can do.

functionlimitwhat it does
setToken()OncePoints the Miner at the Byhash token after it launches on Pons.
start()OnceStarts block rewards. It fails if the reserve is empty.
withdrawReserve()Unmined onlyTakes back Byhash that has not been mined yet. The block reward shrinks by the same proportion.
notifyZec()Any timeAnnounces ZEC bought for miners. The amount is credited to miners over three days.
cancelZec()Uncredited onlyTakes back ZEC that was announced but has not been credited to anyone yet.
markZecPaid()Up to what is owedRecords ZEC sent on the Zcash network, with the Zcash transaction id. It can only lower a balance by the amount recorded.
rescue()Other tokens onlyRecovers tokens sent to the Miner by mistake. It rejects Byhash.
transferOwnership()Any timeHands the owner role to another address. Sending it to the zero address removes the owner for good.

What nobody can do

  • Take or freeze tokens that miners have staked.
  • Take Byhash that miners have already earned, claimed or not.
  • Lower the ZEC balance of a miner without recording a payout for it.
  • Pause staking, unstaking or claiming.
  • Change the lock periods, the boosts, the 14 day epoch or the reward token.

The owner can reduce future rewards by withdrawing unmined reserve or cancelling ZEC that has not been credited yet. Both are on chain events that anyone can see. Treat the reserve shown in the app as the current balance, not as a promise.

What exists today

  • This site. The rules, the schedule, the app screens and the live Zcash numbers are up.
  • The token. Launched on Pons at 0xc984998d3f49491c3fe94525aca2369742df2fbc.
  • The Miner. Not deployed yet. The app reads it the moment the address is set; until then every reading on the app is a dash and every key is off.
  • ZEC payouts. Start after the first creator fees are claimed and the first purchase is announced. There is no payout before that, and no schedule is promised.

Risks

  • Price. $BYHASH is a memecoin. It can lose all of its value, and rewards paid in $BYHASH lose value with it.
  • The reserve is finite. Block rewards fall by half every 14 days by design, and the owner can withdraw reserve that has not been mined.
  • ZEC depends on volume. If trading slows down, there are fewer fees and less ZEC to distribute. Purchases and payouts are manual and are not guaranteed.
  • ZEC payouts rely on the team. The ZEC is held off chain until it is sent. The Miner records what is owed and what was paid, but it cannot make a payment happen.
  • Smart contract risk. The Miner is tested, including fuzz tests for solvency, but it has not been audited by an outside firm.
  • Locks are real. A locked rig cannot be closed early for any reason.

Nothing on this page is financial advice.

FAQ

Do I need mining hardware?
No. Staked $BYHASH is your hashrate. The Miner does the accounting that a proof of work network does with machines.
Is the ZEC real Zcash?
Yes. It is native ZEC sent on the Zcash network to the Zcash address you register. It is not a wrapped token and it never touches Robinhood Chain.
Which Zcash address should I use?
Any mainnet address works: transparent (t1), shielded (zs1) or unified (u1). Use a wallet you control, not an exchange deposit address that needs a memo. The address you save is public on Robinhood Chain, so pick one you are comfortable linking to your wallet.
When do I receive my ZEC?
Payouts are sent by hand in batches. Your balance keeps growing until it is sent, and every payout is recorded on chain with its Zcash transaction id. Balances below 0.001 ZEC wait for a later batch.
Why did my daily earnings drop?
Either more hashrate joined, which makes your share smaller, or a halving passed, which cuts the block reward in two. Both work the same way on Zcash.
Can I add to a rig?
Each stake is its own rig with its own lock. To add more, open another rig. You can run as many as you like.
What happens to my rewards when I unstake?
Nothing is lost. Unstaking returns your tokens, and anything you earned stays claimable.
Is there a claim deadline?
No. Earned rewards wait in the Miner until you claim them.
Does the halving stop?
No. Every 14 days the Miner emits half of what is left, so the reserve gets smaller forever and never reaches zero.
What if the ZEC price moves between announce and send?
Balances are kept in zatoshi, the smallest unit of ZEC, from the moment they are announced. The amount of ZEC you are owed does not change with the price; only its dollar value does.
